identity Crisis

American or an Indian
Today I had an early morning meeting with business folks.
Business sponsor J is a jovial man. We were discussing few other things apart from work. He asked me a question like are you married are u single then after a pause he said is it too personal a question to ask?. I looked at my Sr business analyst A who was nodding her head and then I was like yes and I think it’s unprofessional too :) , A was all smiles :). Then the topic drifted to personal space etc etc.

J was teasing A that she might need some medical help or she needs to see some psychiatrist as she is not comfortable with people standing too near to her. I was like , I can relate to it as I feel the same too. Then we were talking about cultures ,how it freaks out when people try to peep on to your computer screen over your shoulder and suddenly J was like “you know what you are more like American born in India!!”

Many people have noticed that too! (born in India with American attitude)
I thought about it for a while and guess what I feel like half American and half Indian

Points that make me American could be
- I need lot of personal space
- I need space in any relationship (even in friendship as well as my mom!!)
- I don’t like it when people speak in high volume
- I would go in a car to fitness center and work out on tread mill :P
- I love iced teas(I have tried all flavors)
- I love flavored coffee
- I love to have pets, pamper them, take them out :)
- I cannot use other peoples items or let others use my items without my permission
- I hate discussing about my personal life in office and with strangers
- I hate it when people become too inquisitive about my life and want report about each and every step!!
- I feel that I am very distant ,isolated ,private person at times
- I cannot take it if people unnecessarily boss over me, many try to do that as initially I seem very submissive, but I have my own ways to rebel :)
- Possessive people suffocate me
- I am too frank and straight forward, but not rude.
- I am assertive when I know what I want
- I need some kind of motivation to do any work, I cannot blindly do things
- I am very practical and logical in life
- I love to camp, trek, hike, spend time outside during summer.
- I really cannot bear the heat!!!
- In winter I love to ski , skate, go bowling, having lunch/dinner parties at home
- I like to do things around house like some craft or carpentry
- I have no issues being friendly/being a friend with people who smoke/drink or have n number of partners as long as they don’t force me , iam fine with it
- I don't think its wrong to talk about s—-or about gay/lesbian concepts with close friends
- I don’t feel embarrassed to tell people that I have my periods!! I think it’s a natural thing every one knows and when people ask me if I am not well I cannot lie!!!

Points that make me Indian could be
- I am still a vegetarian
- I don’t want to smoke or drink
- I feel embarrassed to watch movies which has smooching/kissing screen. I turn away my face from it
- I cannot watch movies that have too much physical activity in them! I have not watched a single porn movie so far
- I am very religious and I do pooja every day
- I cannot speak against elders as I respect their age
- I love kids
- I don’t like if any tom dick and harry wants to hug me!.
- I believe that if I sleep with a guy that would be my husband else no one
- I don’t want to have extra marital affairs
- I cannot stand it when people try to flirt
- I like colors in my dress than simple pink or blue
- I believe in looking after parents when they are old

Good one! A sign of merging cultures. The borders are vanishing. Perhaps we should get the best of both..
